Added 4 of the confirmed 15 cent price variants to the checklist. Added 3 of the 4 images.

Thanks to Get Marwood & I for the images and reminding me the variants existed. I evidently listed one at some point before being reminded they exist. I'll need to sort through my scans to see if I have more 15 cent cover images.

I've added Six-Gun Heroes #67 to my CGC page - it's too big to upload here, even compressed, and I don't have a 3rd party hosting website, sorry. Anyway, link here:

The threads you have going on the CGC board and the image hosting is perfect. No need to apologize or change anything.

I dropped out as a registered member there. Too many cliques and people going back and forth with memes.

I got sidetracked creating some EC reprint cover galleries, but I will probably get back to updating the Charlton list again soon.

I've posted a meme or two there myself as it goes, and you're right about the cliques. Before I joined I read that you'd get a hard time on arrival, but if you proved your worth they'd take you in. Over two years of posting definitive pence / variant lists later and I'm still waiting for the invite! I've never felt welcome there if I'm honest. Made a few friends but I'm largely ignored alas.

It's not the memes per se, but the flood of memes with people not even talking about comics. I don't even mind off topic content, but the bulk of discussion there is not informative. I go to conventions and educate dealers about what exist. The owner of Heroes Con had the Charlton printing of EC's Impact #1 in his box for sale. I said "Hey, this is cool. This is the Charlton 1st printing of Impact #1." He had no idea what I was talking about. I asked Golden age dealer Harley Yee if he had any Charlton adult humor comics. He'd never seen or heard of them. These are people that have a career in the hobby and float around from city to city doing shows. I know a lot about comics, but I'm running out of knowledgeable sources that can actually show me something that interests me.

I think the one message board thread that I dread seeing the most is "What bags and boards should I use?" I was using mylites in 1982. There isn't a lot of information that I'm going to find informative in those threads.

As far as acceptance goes on the CGC forum, several core members said my posts were their favorite. The problem was that they'd coax me to tell something about my personal life experiences and they all thought I was lying. There would be a half dozen threads about me when I was there to talk about comics. There were also a few online "enemies" (I use the word loosely) that I'd offended over a decade ago and they stirred up trouble whenever I posted anything they didn't like. There were constant attempts to negate my right to my own opinion. Eventually, I got tired of it. I wanted to talk about comics and share info about comics, but most people were hanging out to socialize and laugh with their clique of friends.

There are some great threads over there, but they are the exception from my experience.

I can relate to that! There's one leading UK dealer over here who is a proponent of pence copies. I asked him if he had any Charltons hiding in his stock and he said "there aren't any pence Charltons". When I said there were over 800 he glazed over. I was desperate to talk about it and he, the proponent of pence variants, wasn't interested. That's life in the Charlton lane for you.

Back to the CGC boards, I find once you make an enemy they're enemies for life. I made a few early on as I wasn't familiar with their online etiquette and was a bit annoying probably. I've tried a few times to make amends and hand out olive branches but it rarely works. I came to the site late and I think I would have had a lot more interaction on my pence threads had I arrived sooner. A software change alienated many of the old timers and I think the place is becoming less and less about comics now. There are still good threads and good people there but I find myself drifting slowly away. Ever decreasing circles of interest alas.

Re: Charlton 15¢ Price Variants (10th Dec 18 at 2:38pm UTC)
Many collectors have an agenda online. A dealer with hundreds of boxes of dead 90's stock will cop an attitude if you criticize the subject matter of something they are trying to sell & monetize. It doesn't matter that you are just expressing your opinion. They get offended because they want to pawn off their drek to uneducated buyers. If you provide a valid justification that something should not be worth much (overproduced, poor quality, etc.), they take that as an offense. Even if you express it as opinion, they treat it as an attack.

One "respected" (again, I use the term loosely) individual in the hobby has lied to his admirers for years and I've called him out on it. He's fabricated lies to his followers and his followers have done the same in an attempt to discredit me. I refused to roll over and play dead, so any interaction is destined to be negative and confrontational. I dropped out of his message board in an attempt to separate myself from the drama, but people followed me and begged me to rejoin. When I said "no", they again perpetuated lies about me knowing that I was not there to defend myself or justify my assertions. The ripple effects persist.

As far as the dealer that wasn't aware of Charlton pence comics, he doesn't have any and he knows the market is small. He's only interested in what will make him money.

Awesome. Although I say I don't buy Charlton, I would buy these if I saw them at shows. The location of the purchase is noteworthy (Kansas City). Thee 15¢ variants were probably distributed in the same geographical region(s). My understanding is that Charlton was mainly an east coast publisher in the US and they didn't get distributed on the west coast. I may be wrong, but you don't see many originating from collections on the west coast. Kansas City may have been at the far end of the distribution chain.

Interesting. I understand from talking to some of the older UK dealers that Charlton pence copies were also erratically distributed in the UK too, with whole areas getting none. That may help explain their scarcity.

We're up to 8 confirmed 15cv's now:

https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/430349-doctor-tom-brent-and-his-flying-nurses/?do=findComment&comment=10512022

I own seven of them! Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

Not bad for a resident of Englandville {Smile}

By the way, how do you add an avatar here Defiant1? I tried a few times to add my CGC avatar (Cynthia Doyle) but it takes forever and never loads. Any clues?

Re: Charlton 15¢ Price Variants (10th Jan 19 at 11:17pm UTC)
I haven't had time to cross-reference the pence comic images I have that were American versions, just stamped somewhere on the cover with a pence price.
I have assumed that they fall outside the date range of your list.

The software for this board is very old. Most of the messageboards on this service are overrun with spam and shut down. The owner(s) don't really promote or maintain it regularly. I happen to like the admin side because it's pretty static. I left proboards when they switched to dynamic content that updates settings on the fly. It's very annoying. About 2 years ago, pages started taking a very long time to load. It's a little better now. I was getting error messages about compression settings being wrong on the server or something odd like that. Somewhere through all that, the image uploads quit working. I think it has to do with the web updating security protocols and this site maybe not being updated on the server side. It's nothing I can tweak or control. I rarely ever use the image upload function here, because I try to use 3rd party hosting of images. I uploaded your avatar to my tinypic.com host. Your avatar should be showing now. This will be a good opportunity to see how reliable tinypic is.

I'm not complaining, but you sure are making it difficult for me to stay caught up on price variants. I'm not even caught up on the Canadian price variants that I have. Smiley

Ha! Nice problem to have {Grin}

Thanks for adding Cynthia. Doesn't she look nice. The site loads very slowly for me I'm afraid. I quite like the CGC board software. It allows direct picture upload from your PC which suits me perfectly. No need for third party hosting sites.

I have about 400 Charlton pence copies now, just under half of what should exist. It's a slow process collecting them but fun all the same. If they were freely available I'd just buy the lot in one go. No fun in that.

Comics are great aren't they {Smile}

I think the colors on Cynthia really stand out nicely on a black background. CGC is promoting sales of their service simply by offering a forum for discussion. It's a revenue stream that helps pay for the image hosting. CBCS has the same. The person who own this site has a better paying job elsewhere. If I was younger, had more time, and had more space, I'd buy more comics. When I look through my stuff, the things that stand out are the items I don't want, not the items I do want. In that sense, I take it all for granted.

Actually, I think it was posted on the CBCS site.
It came up in a Google search when I wasn't looking for it.
I downloaded the image straight from Google, not the site.
I have the CBCS forum temporarily blocked on my computer so that I stay away from certain people who like to talk more about me than they do interesting comics.
I thought it might be a scan that you had posted outside of your CGC thread.
I think I saw some text about the person asking if they'd be rich for owning it.
Never saw the full post or thread.

It was in rougher shape than it appears here. {Unsure}

I wouldn't say anyone specifically upset me. I think a better description was that they bored me. I like to learn about comics and share covers and information. Many of the people there are into new comics and don't have the depth of knowledge I've had. I've forgotten more about comics than some of their members ever knew. There is a better mix of members there than I see at other boards, but it's still not enough to keep me entertained. The software running the board is inferior, but it does allow image uploads of large files. You have to post continuously to keep a thread at the top.

I've discovered that many modern collectors have poor reading comprehension. I will be quite articulate with my choice of words so that I'm specific and clear about something. They read something entirely different from what I wrote. I have to remind myself that some people who read comics are poorly educated.

As far as liking me or not, it's a mixed bag. Some people hate me. Some love me. Some people love me and hate at the same time and don't realize it. Any answer to that question is correct.

I unblocked my computer from being able to access the CBCS site. I wanted to see if they had any other images worth grabbing. No luck. While there, I did post a few things.

All it takes is two or three really stupid people on a board and I do want to give them a piece of my mind. When I used to hang around comic shops, I would say exactly what was on my mind. A customer would come in and start talking about something stupid. I would say something sarcastic or mock them in some way. They'd shut up. As soon as they had done their shopping and left, the store manager would thank me for getting them to shut up and leave faster. I was the "favorite customer" at several comic shops in Atlanta. I said the things that got the stupid people to shut up.

I updated the top post. I added a little formatting & color.

There will always be stupid people on boards, as there are in life. It is hard to ignore them, yes, but ultimately worthwhile I find. I'll get on with anyone me, as long as they don't have an angle. I'm not keen on people with angles. Just be normal, enjoy comics, have some fun. My days of trying to help / police fruitcakes are over.

Back to comics, I finally found a Konga #2 pence copy Def:
