Credit for the info goes to Doug Sulipa, Mike Oxsmall, and Metarog, and myself.
Mike & Metarog alerted me to the existence and provided examples. Doug Sulipa defined the date range and most likely made all of us aware of these. I took Doug's info and filled it in with issue numbers.

Since compiling this list in 2010 or so, I have become skeptical the the last issues for a series had a price variant released. I do not believe that Soap Opera Romances #5 or Billy the Kid #153 exist. I do not believe that Beyond the Grave exists because Charlton has both the U.S. and Canadian price on the cover of the U.S. version. These all still could exist, but none have appeared in the wild in the past 9 years.

There is an example of a Modern Promotions (Modern Comics) book having a U.S. version with the American & Canadian prices on the cover and also having a price variant with just the Canadian price on it. Voltron #1 is the specific comic I'm referring too.
[Special Note: Charlton & Modern are two different publishers despite Modern reprinting some Charlton comics.]

It has recently been discovered that Cartoon Carnival #28 has a 35¢ & 40¢ version. The 40¢ could be a price variant that predates the ones in the 80's. It has been reported that Cartoon Carnival #27 has a magazine sized version and a comic sized version. The magazine sized version could have been produced for the Canada market.

I have scans that are not yet uploaded and linked to my checklist. The proposed checklist above has been filling in nicely, but it is still incomplete. Some online guides don't know about the variants and show Canadian versions instead of the U.S. version.

Where are all these pre-September 1983 cover dated Charlton Canadian Price Variants Def? I keep seeing dates as early as 02/83 being mentioned but have never seen an example?

My own research indicates no more than five CPVs existing for the eligible bi-monthly titles, starting from September 83 to July 84 inclusive.

Where be all the others?

And, more importantly, where has me avatar gone? {Grin}

I see your avatar just fine. It's been showing up every time I visit.

I know of no 75¢ price variants from early 1983. The original posts where I learned about the variants are no longer on the web unless they are archived at the Internet Archive. I may have a pdf that I printed of the thread.

My list has Battlefield Action #83 as the earliest possible Canadian Price variant for that series and it has an Oct. 1983 cover date.

I think it's a very safe bet that there are no 75¢ variants before September. I will sometimes say that the price variants are from 1983 & 1984. I don't get more specific because those are the dates I sometimes enter for web searches. I think it's unlikely there is a price variant for Battlefield Action #88 because it has dual pricing on the cover.

I'm using Battlefield Action as an example because I have a full set of cover images for those Canadian variants.

I had to take a hiatus from doing updates due to vehicle repairs and hospital visits. All is fine, but most of my spare time was consumed.
I jumped back into doing updates on the dreadful Blue Bird Shoe Store comics. It's nowhere near as much fun as locating a Canadian price variant or a pence price variant.

It's back now Def (the avatar). Not sure why it was absent on my last visit. The site does take some time to load for me, maybe that's got something to do with it. We need a bigger pipe!

I agree with you about the dual pricing from August/September 1984. In all my other research strands, that always signifies the end of the variant price experiment so I don't think any CPVs will surface cover dated later than July 1984.

I wonder whether any title will have more than 5 CPVs? If my dates are right, the maximum will be six copies for any of the in scope titles, but so far I see that six titles have only 5. Bit coincidental.

Also if my dates are right, there will be no Billy the Kid, Soap Opera Love or Soap Opera Romances. Not sure why they crop up on lists across the web, when there are no copies that I can see in existence?

I see nothing inherently wrong with your post. To my recollection, Billy the Kid, Soap Opera Love or Soap Opera Romances were in the possible date range. I don't think they exist, but I still do searches for them.
I did not do the spreadsheet breakdown by month. If I'm wrong for listing them, it's because no one took me up on my request to check the info I posted. Image

I'm not ruling out variants for the adult humor magazines. At some point I'll check the titles in question and cross-reference it to the months you came up with. For now, I'm sticking with my list in order to err on the side of caution. I scrutinized the dates 7 years ago and I have not tried to retrace those step since all of the information was from external sources anyway. Searching for the covers involved trust that my sources were correct. So far, most of it has been. Your research sounds good though. I have 5 CPV's for Beyond the Grave and I've had no luck with locating 8, 9, & 10.

Overstreet has been known to post false information intentionally. Surely they wouldn't do that with a market status article, but it's possible.
