Here is the current location of the Continuity Checklist:

http://continuity.zymichost.com/

http://comicchecklist.hol.es/Continuity/ [updated 5/1/2015]

This category doesn't have much updates. I'll try to pull in some of the more interesting content from the old board at some point.

I just picked up a copy of Samuree #2 (from Windjammer). The cover says #2 of 3. #3 does not exist. I wonder if this was a completed issue that was never published or if it was just a mistake on the cover of #2. I just filed the book away in my Continuity box, too. I guess I might have to pull it out and read it and see what the case may be.

Continuity shut down pretty abruptly in 1994 due to dropping sales and a crackdown by Diamond on shipping late. Their books simply weren't ready to ship on time. Rather than publish a book with 100% returnability, they cut their losses and quit publishing altogether. Despite that, they had books that were already completed. Valeria #2 had been delayed because of a fur cover gimmick. Valeria #3 & 4 were delayed because they were planned to be Spawn crossovers and Todd MCFarlane changed is mind. The art for the Spawn crossover was tweaked to feature Knighthawk instead. Jon Hartz at Valiant used to work for Continuity and I think he may have been part of Neal's extended family. Publishing Neal's completed Continuity titles was a way for Neal to get money out of the books that were already completed or near completion. Valiant got to experiment with offering creator owned properties. My guess is that #3 still wasn't completed or it tied into the Rise of Magic storyline too much. Valiant probably reviewed their sales and decided it wasn't worth publishing.

Continuity checklist won't load for me.

Anyway, my want list has a Cyberrad Vol. 2 #1 with a gold logo, but no hologram. Does this book exist, is it on the checklist?

The checklist isn't loading for me either. Sometimes FTP works when the HTTP doesn't, but neither are working.
The domain name is mapping out to an IP address and the server isn't responding at all. I'm going to guess that the server has crashed.

I have the comic on the checklist because it was solicited by Neal Adams' website at some point.

Does it really exist? I don't know. I believe it does exist, but the question is how many and was it ever produced for the market.

Evidence in favor:
1) www.nealadams.com solicited it.
2) I own a Red Foil Valeria and it took years before anyone else claims to have seen one. They do have at least one other comic that is this elusive.
3) It's highly likely that some printing samples were produced at some point without the hologram affixed.

Evidence against:
1) Jason Adams, the webmaster for www.nealadams.com makes mistakes and doesn't have a the best memory for this kind of stuff. I don't think it's as important to him as it is to collectors. The listing could be erroneous.
2) I have encountered no one in person or online that has actually seen one since discovering the solicitation.

I believe printing samples exist, but that's just a guess. All we know is that it didn't have a hologram. It might have a white empty square where the hologram was to be. A best case scenario would be a Gold Foil version of a Newsstand edition.

I've considered removing it from the checklist for a long time. I know the moment I do, you'll find one and post a scan. I considered taking those rare Triumphant comics off my checklist. Thankfully , I held out and they appeared.

Thanks for the information, I guess I'll leave it on for now, it's not like I'm 100% complete on Continuity aside from this book, so no big hurry.

I've updated some web pages for the Continuity checklist, but I'm unable to upload any files to the server. I think they are upgrading something or keeping it unreachable because they don't want people to transfer files.

Well, I went to a mall. I went to Books-A-Million which used to carry modern newsstand comics as well a graphic novels and such. They've discontinued new comics, so i took a glance at their graphic novels. Nothing interested me. While mulling around, I passed 6 long boxes all about half full of bagged and boarded dollar books. These were mostly 90's crap. I saw one Pacific comics issue and some really obscure stuff that you don't see much. Some appeared to be unsuitable for kids. This was clearly someone's crap that they sold off to the book store.

I was pretty sure I didn't have a newsstand version of Toyboy #5, so I grabbed one. The condition was low enough grade that I had to touch up the scan a little. At least I have one that I can scan for my checklist.

Toyboy #5 (newsstand)

The only difference I see is the bar code.

Hmm, the Books-A-Million in the local mall still carries new comics. I went there a few times in the last few weeks looking for Fantasy Baseball magazines. It was interesting to see which companies were carried by the store. I seemed to recall mostly DC and Bongo, some Archie. I really don't recall seeing Marvel, they were definitely newsstand sales versions of the books.

I know these newsstand copies will be super rare, and yet I still don't care. The odds of getting one through the checkout without spine creases would be near impossible.
Book-A-Million must give their stores some degree of freedom on what they can carry.

That has to be right, as I thought it was weird that they had a box of old comics. Sounds like they buy old books, which the Books-A-Million here does not.

I ussed to go to Half Price Books when I lived in Milwaukee, now that was a decent store for getting cheap comics.

My guess is that a local retailer pawned off their overstock. I'm betting someone bought these for a dime, sold them to Books-A-Million for a quarter, and told them they could make 75 cents profit on a book. We have no "Half Price Books" as far as I know.

Finally picked up the newsstand variant of Armor #13, it was in a bunch of junk boxes at a newly opened comic shop. The owner told me he doesn't want to deal in back issues, but he just happened to have these. The books in the junk boxes were mainly newsstand sales editions. I also got a Bucky O'Hare #3 with a UPC code.

Can you post a big scan of Bucky #3 with the UPC? I don't have that. I was updating the site with newsstand (bar code) scans as I get them.

I've been lazy and haven't looked for a new host for my Continuity Checklist. It pulls up intermittently and I haven't had FTP access for over 2 years. The site requires you to remain active on their messageboard and the messageboard was down for a long time. I assume it still is.

I have an updated version on my hard drive with a lot of sketchbooks added. Even one I don't own.

Crap! I forgot to say congratulations on the Armor #13! I looked a LONG time trying to locate that book. I scoured every comic shop and show I visited. I bought one online listed as high grade and it arrived stained with water damage. It looked like a reading copy from a gas station bathroom floor. I wanted a replacement in decent shape and finally located it in the last place I'd have expected. I found it in an antique store about 2 miles from home. It was closer than any comic shop in town. I couldn't believe I'd been looking so long and found it so close.

I like when shop owners disregard their back issues and old comics boxes, and thencustomers find their own rare comics in there.

Some see that a comic has been in their back issue box for years and nobody wanted it. They see no reason to mark up the price. They wouldn't sell a Hulk #1 for a dollar simply because a customer was ignorant. Sometimes they have to educate the consumer what a comic is, but they are too lazy to figure out themselves what a comic is. It used to be cool to walk into a comic shop with back issues 30 years old. Things that weren't hot or that are hard to find could be found cheap. It's not that way around here anymore.

I'm also looking for direct market issues that may have different artwork in the bar code box. I don't know of any, but I'm still looking.

Yes I do.
Surprisingly, I need some direct version scans as listed below. In most cases, if I say newsstand, I'm talking a bar code version. If I sat direct, I mean the bar code box has art in it or it's blank.

As of now, I need scans for:

Armor - #3-#12 Newsstand
Bucky O'Hare - #1-#2 newsstand, #4-#5 newsstand
Captain Power - #2 newsstand
Crazyman (Vol. 1) - #1-3 newsstand,
Crazyman (Vol. 2) - Any or all newsstand, but I don't believe they exist.
Cyberrad (Vol. 1) - #1-#4 direct, #6-#7 newsstand
Cyberrad (Vol. 2) - I need any version with a bar code. All my scans have logos in the bar code spot, even the "newsstand version" which likely was distributed with that name through Diamond.
Cyberrad (Vol. 3) - Any or both newsstand, but I don't believe they exist.
Earth4 (Vol. 1 or 2) - Any or all newsstand, but I don't believe they exist.
Echo of Futurepast - Any or all newsstand, but I don't believe they exist.
Hybrids (Vol. 1, 2 or 3) - Any or all newsstand, but I don't believe they exist.
Megalith (Vol. 1) - #4 & #5 direct, #7- #9 newsstand
Megalith (Vol. 2) - Any or all newsstand, but I don't believe they exist.
Ms. Mystic (Vol. 1) - #1 & #2 direct (no bar code), #4 newsstand, #6-#8 newsstand
Ms. Mystic (Vol. 2 or 3) - Any or all newsstand, but I don't believe they exist.
Revengers #1 newsstand, #6 newsstand
Revengers Trade Issue - #1 Any newsstand, but I don't believe a 2nd printing newsstand exists.
Samuree (Vol. 1) - #1 direct, #2-#9 newsstand
Samuree (Vol. 2) - Any or all newsstand, but I don't believe they exist.
Toyboy - #1 & #2 direct (no bar code), #3 newsstand, #4 direct, #6 & #7 newsstand
Urth4- #1 & #2 newsstand
Valeria the She-Bat - Any or all newsstand, but I don't believe they exist.
Zero Patrol - #3-#5 newsstand

For what it's worth, this is the latest uploaded version of my Continuity checklist. Still need to add the Bucky #3 newsstand cover. I don't have a lot of choice on the domain names. I tried to make it make sense.

Added some bar code (newsstand variant for several issues of Armor. I believe they were issues #'s 3-6 for volume 1. The scans were collected online about a year ago. I do not own anything I added today. I think it's a safe bet that there are no newsstand versions for Volume #2.

http://comicchecklist.hol.es/Continuity/Armor/Continuity_Armor.html

Added a missing scan for a sketchbook that I do not own.

Neal Adams Chicago Convention Exclusive added.

http://comicchecklist.hol.es/Continuity/Sketchbook/Continuity_Sketchbook.html

The checklist will be at version 5.64 after I make one more set of fixes.

Thanks!

I'll see what I can do. The hard drive that stored all my comic scans and website data is corrupt so I'm still in data recovery mode. A mass copy failed mid-stream, so I'm having to finish folder by folder or file by file. The place I'm storing the recovered data is a temporary location and I really don't have a permanent solution yet. I've saved the image, but it'll be awhile before I can do anything with it.
