Here is an ad from the April 1994 issue of Diamond Dialogue. It's a little bland. Was a full page ad really worth it?

Here's the ad from the following month. May 1994 issue of Diamond dialogue. It also appears in the June 1994 issue.

Here is another ad from the May 1994 issue of Diamond Dialogue magazine.
It's a paid ad referencing the trade-in for extra Dark dominion card product.

That's pretty nice of Defiant to offer that book exchange for the pricey card boxes and binders. I remember those would cost a ton back then at the comic shops in the 90s. They weren't even marked down back then in my area. I remember Deathwatch 2000 cards too. Flooded market.

I guess this was the start of the schism between Rivergroup and Defiant towards the ending of the companies. At least the card binders were cool looking for other card sets! I wish they made white and different color versions of the black binders....

Wonder what they mean by "perfect bound" deluxe format for the planned trade paperbacks. Was the Plasm: Home For the Holidays considered perfect bound?

I think so. It's a standard printing term to describe a specific format. It's not something I remember because I've never really had anything printed. I've investigated it before, but I don't retain information like that if i'm not going to use it. I have to think about the term "Saddle-stitched" whenever I see it even though I do know what it is. Whatever arrangement the River Group had with Defiant... it wasn't realistic. No one at Defiant can explain why and how the comic "Whacked!" came to be. I think it was the River Group saying.. "We don't need you!" There was evidently a lawsuit following Defiant's shutting down. I saw references online. Jim was being sued over that.

I sometimes wish I was a retailer to get access to some of these Diamond retailer stuff. They would get all the fun store posters, preview comics and promos or packets from companies ahead of time. But i'm more interested during these early years where I would try to collect my favorite lines. Now the modern news can be seen on bleedingcool. Which is mostly for alerts on special obnoxious variants that stores would have to up their orders on. {Rolleyes}

I was friends with about 4 or 5 retailers. I would hang out with the store owners or management. I was called their favorite customer by some and I was a bridge between some of them staying friends rather than treating each other as the enemy. I would read all the industry publications to stay on top of what was going on. If they wre going to throw away an industry magazine, I'd ask if I could keep it. At one point, an owner was selling comics at three locations. Two were comic shops. The third was a trophy store. The trophy store didn't sell much, so one of the other stores did their ordering. I knew that each store was entitled to a retailer Previews packet and I knew it cost them $6. I asked if they'd order that third Previews retailer packet and sell it to me for $6. They liked me, so they agreed. It was really helpful and I got to see incentive offers that the consumer wouldn't see. I also got the freebies which included posters, promo cards, and promo comics. It was pretty cool.

Purged the photobucket links. The last ad is still very interesting.
