The Warriors of Plasm Gallerry is back online:

http://defiant.x10.bz/Warriors_of_Plasm/Warriors_of_Plasm.html

It all started with Plasm #0 Bound into Previews. Most people pulled it out and if so there will be glue on the spine.

There was a "Stand-Alone" version which is copies that were distributed loose. Some say these were given out at conventions. I'm not really sure.

The comic was next availabe as a trading card set which went into these binders. The cards were sold separately:

Plasm #0 "Premiere Edition" Trading Card Binder

Here is the back cover:

These were limited to 10,000 and they sold out quickly.

Because the "Premier Edition" sold out so quickly, a second edition was created.

I was going through my Plasmtazoa comic stash and remembered I had a different type of version of the Plasm zero comic. I don't know the back story to this one but I bought it from a lady awhile ago who didn't really know about it. I like buying comics from women. They don't know what they have and they just want to get rid of anything that looks like comics as fast as they can. Smiley

It's not with a staple but it looks flat without the white and black borders from the bound version. It doesn't have the gummy glue spine when ripped from the Previews catalog either. It kind of looks like one of those Hasbro comic books that are packed and sold with action figures (StarWars/Transformers) at the retail stores where they don't have staples but are still held together. I'll take a pic to describe it better. Smiley

Is it different than the stand-alone version I list?

Looks like this:

It looks like it's perfectly cut right on the edges of the art without the top and side borders like the stand alone has. No staple but it opens like a regular comic. No wave ripples on the spine either. I put one on top of a stand alone up there. It's smaller by a couple of centimeters since it's without the white borders. I remember I got this from a woman seller for under $20 and asked if she had more but this was all she had.

If it's cut and doesn't have a wrap around cover, I'd say it was just processed by someone with binding experience. Odd either way.

Looks like it was cut right after wraparound cover. And cut right along the artwork edges but it came out perfect. I got it on ebay based on the art picture and it looked cool. No idea how the binding/glue? stayed together on this one. But I guess the binding inside the thick Previews would have required more of that glue gummy-ness to keep the comic stuck in there for good.

I remember 20 years ago, I would try dental floss string and tried to saw the comic out of the Previews catalog. Never worked! Smiley

Someone who does binding for a living would have no problem. It could've even been pressed afterwards.

Someone listed this as innovative marketing. Maybe I saw that written at Illustrated Media. Sorry, but Max Gaines had a comic bound into a magazine in 1942.
It was about 51 years too late as far as being innovative.

I fixed this page so that clicking on the image would open a larger scan. An upper/lower case naming conflict was causing a bad link.
I also resolved a naming conflict on the logo for all of the Plasm pages. The logo images were showing, but only because I kept the same image on the server saved with two names. Fixing the pages allowed me to delete am unnecessary duplicate file.

The second picture has a web site shown on the packaging and specifies that all the comics were obtained on the secondary market.

You can order this from their website right now, but there is no guarantee as to what you will get.

http://store.cardsone.com/Cardsone-Vintage-Redemption-Offer-3-Comic-Books-Over-25-Years-Old/productinfo/CBCC4/

Or... Smiley .... you can buy comics by the pound. Smiley

http://store.cardsone.com/Comic-Books/products/396/

I'll give them credit for branding dollar box comics. This stuff can be bought for a dime a book in bulk. It's good mark-up for them and all they need is a shrink wrap machine with some branded shrink wrap. Anybody can do it.

One of the convention dealers in Georgia... Earl Shaw... told me that he had sold to a repackaging company in Alabama. He said they really liked stuff like the old Marvel Barbie comics for that kind of packaging.

I figured it was secondary market repackaging. Still, that was going on around toward the end of DEFIANT's run and I thought that may have been secondary repackaging from back in the day.

The packaging says "Vintage comics over 25 years old"... so definitely not.

Here's another gift from Vikingspawn!

It's very interesting and he was thinking it might be another variant of the comic. I don't think so.
I think it was removed from Previews and professionally trimmed and bound. There is glue along the left side. I had heard of this being done and I had also heard of copies being removed and a strip of bindery tape being applied up the spine to make it neat and less likely to separate.

It's a really neat version! I scanned it in the bag because i don't want to handle it again.
