The pre-order option for issue #2 basically disappeared for some online comic shops. Maybe it's cancelled since they didn't meet the Diamond order requirements.

They should just do what Bongo does now and put their already finished issues on cheesy digital for $1.99.

{Rolleyes}

If he'd not released all of the variant covers, I'd have ordered it.

Even if he releases one cover for any subsequent issues, I'm not ordering any of the series. I'm a completist and I'm not having an incomplete set. The variant I don't own offends me simply because it exists. I don't want to own it either. Giving me a free copy would not make me want to buy any future issues.

Midtowncomics said it might ship on 10/11 but I still don't see it on the previews site. One of the facebook pages actually has a cover pic of issue #3:

https://www.facebook.com/ImpressionableChildren/

Might have to scroll down the pictures to see it.

I couldn't remember if Jim even contributed. I doubt any stores here ordered it.

Still nothing on issue #2. MidtownComics says maybe Oct. 25 but I think they say that when they have no concrete release date from Diamond.

It reminds me of the later issues of the 2011 Dark Horse solicited Shooter books for Magnus/Turok/Solar/Samson where the pre-orders (and covers) were up and then months later were cancelled alltogether.

Missing ship dates or postponing ship dates can be a sign of cash flow problems. Diamond doesn't pay immediately, so sometimes the publisher wants to get their money for the books they've already shipped before they incur the cost of printing for things they've already solicited. If the books are not making a good profit, shipping late helps them minimize the negative cash flow. I think the publishers also feel that it gives time for new readers to jump on board, but that is rarely the case.

They already missed the halloween window for this genre of comic. I bet it'll be bumped to February. I remember Shooter saying last summer that he didn't know who was going to draw it yet but Joe James was still listed in the credits.

I hope Image will start the Shooter teasers soon so they get a head start to put the awareness out there for his name alone. And Neal Adams. Maybe they are waiting for the books to be fully finished before they solicit them.

I think they want them finished. Probably a good decision in this market. Too much stuff wasn't getting finished in the past.

The only copy of this issue I can find on eBay is at $5.25, and two have sold at that price.

Not a huge mark-up. I liked underdog when I was growing up.

Not a large markup but I pointed it out because usually newer books don't sell for any markup at all. Plus with only one copy available on eBay it could be set for a price jump. In the old days if I had a copy right now I'd list it at 9.99. Then once mycomicshop sells out I'd have the only copy available at 9.99 barring any other copies being listed.

The key words being "in the old days". It's not worth gambling on new product to have extra copies. I'm also inclined to believe that most indy comics are being ordered pretty close to the level in which demand exists. It's not like there is a runaway demand with an increasing number of fans wanting this. The fans are going to be people our age.

My guess is that it'll settle at about $8. Maybe $8.50. Just a guess though.

Still no concrete release date on issue 2. It must have been ordered less than 1000 copies by shops.

I think so. When they lost my orders, that was a big hit to the sales. Image

Funny yet probably true! I might try to buy one more full set of issue #1 since I got my three issues signed.

I really think they underestimate how many long term sales are lost when they go for the short term grab by publishing variants.

Looks like my copy of issue #1 signed by JCV is being shipped tomorrow. My preorder of it with the ones for issue #2 got split. I guess Diamond had them signed from their unsold stock. Issue #2 ships on....{Confused} ....who knows.....I bet it will be resolicited in previews again to see if they get more orders to fill the required minimum print run.

I don't know how much unsold stock Diamond keeps. I'm not sure if Vaughn takes the excess or if Diamond store it. #2 will probably be delayed until the summer.

Re: American Mythology (8th Dec 17 at 3:50pm UTC)
I got my signed copy the other day. It's basically the blue variant cover issue signed and the COA is a smaller thin white paper from American Myth saying it was limited to 75 copies. But there's no real number on them to say it's 1 of 75 or anything. The completist in me was curious about their COAs with their signed issues.....they're not like Dynamic Forces certificates where they're numbered.

The solicitation was limited to 75, but nothing stops them from giving out certificates at dhows lr store signings. :/ They won't sell 75 anyway. Maybe 20,

I don't know. Mr. Vaughn seems to be spread pretty thin and he only seems to promote what he's working on at the moment he posts.

I got a refund for the regular number 2 issues from last summer. I'll order again when the actual release becomes more definite.

It would e nice to know how many were ordered. How many copies ordered is too low to publish? At what point does the order number being low make a publisher ignore the advertising effort and dollars spent to promote it?

Maybe they'll pay attention to my email complaining about variants? Eh. Probably not. They have tunnel vision.
