I just investigated the price CBCS charges for certifying a signature on a comic book they didn't witness. It's $25 dollars, in addition to the cost of grading and encapsulating the book.

It's nice that they will certify a signature. There has to be a validation process because the collecting of signatures is a hobby unto itself.

Yes. I despise the way CGC has a qualified label they use if someone dares send them in a comic previously signed that CGC didn't make money off of. On that special label they note ''such and such written on cover in ink.''
Highly insulting to me.

That's annoying. I remember seeing a cgc guy hovering over Shooter's shoulder when he was signing stuff years back. Do they pay creators while they're staring at them for that?

I seriously doubt it. CGC was setup at a show I went to. i don't think I even looked at their table.

CBCS: "Hey Jim, look at the scan in the attached email and let me know if you signed this comics."
Jim Shooter: "Yeah, that was my signature."
CBCS: "Thanks, we'll send you a check for $10."

I guess that's fine if the signer was still alive, but then you might as well get a new signature and have CGC witness it. I would probably only use the CBCS signature verification thing for an artist who is no longer with us.

I don't know. How else are you going to get a slabbed 9.8 certified signed by Shooter of a Dark Dominion 1 or Warriors of Plasm 1?

Shooter's alive, so you take a newly found Dark Dominion #1 in 9.8 to have Shooter sign it in front of the CGC.

I think it's very inconvenient to have to coordinate with the CGC to witness a signature. I've only seen the CGC at one show I've attended.
I think the CBCS method is great.

There is already a hobby for collecting signatures. There has to be a validation process for that hobby or everyone would be afraid to buy any.
