Black Lightning is different. It doesn't seem to be linked to the other DC based series on CW.

I think the writing is better and it seems to be more adult oriented. It deals with prostitution, murder and other topics which aren't really good for kids. They don't really explain how he got his powers.

I like the show. The writing is better and it more centered around black themes that work well. I like what they are doing with his daughter. I'm not really familiar with the character in the comics. He was created by Tony Isabella of whom I'm not a fan.

I watched the first episode on demand and really enjoyed it. I've never read the comics, so no idea how much it draws from them.

I really liked it too. As the show has progressed, the acting by the women on the show is carrying it. I like his wife & daughters. I've begun to get tired of his one trick pony show of zapping people. I think his costume is gaudy. His white tech resource guy is becoming more complicated and the list of villains keeps growing vertically on the scale of evil control they have.

I'm less interested in the show now than I was on the first episode. He's battling too much cliché street crime. I'm suspecting that the villain or adversary will end up being a white guy. I think the problem with the show is that it doesn't recognize cultural barriers. Middle class black people are intermingling with poor class black people and the cultural boundaries that exist are ignored.

I can see myself dropping this form my viewing regimen if the writing gets too stupid. They need to make his costume less gaudy. They need to give him some interesting angle other than being a school principle fighting street crime.

I keep forgetting to mention this, but watching Black Lightning evokes moments of sadness. The new anchor woman on the show has been Amanda Davis who was an anchor woman on local Atlanta news for many years. She died unexpectedly before the first episode of Black Lightning aired. Seeing her on the show has been sad. The 7th episode posted an "in memory of" tribute at the end. I'm guessing that was the last episode which we'll see her.
