Nice. Just moved it to the next of my queue list. I've been getting HBO and I never really tune in to the channels. Gonna binge watch this from the start.

The first episode is very subtle humor. I was watching it with my niece and my mom. My niece was sure I'd like it. She was right. I was laughing at humor they didn't get. It's subtle sarcasm. The Burger King segment in about episode 5 is awesome. The conclusion at the final episode is also awesome. Unfortunately, the best character is Peter Gregory and the actor died about half way through the filming.

This show is fantastic. I'm 2 episodes in and it's hilarious. The characters Mike Judge created are so true.

The Burger King segment and the Dick Jerk segment in the final episodes tops this ten-fold. Peter Gregory gets better up until the actor dies in real life. Mike Judge is an expert in the category or sarcasm and mockery.

I finished the series and the Dickjerk/formula sequence was hilarious. And the graphitti/mural episode where they look for a pied piper logo....i've been rewatching some of the episodes again.

I wouldn't mind being under contract with "Hooli"....the part where the outcast employees spend their day and just barbecue food on the Hooli roof while they wait out their Hooli contracts.

The last epsiodes made me look up what the "weissmann score" is... {Grin}

I pretty much understood all the dialogue and thought it was great. We used to laugh that our company would lay people off and then hire them back as contract labor and pay them more. Software engineers showing up and having nothing to do sounds plausible to me.

The "Driverless Car".... Smiley

It was hilarious where he ended up in the island and the guy inside was locked in at every turn...lol....right into the that boat crate....Mike Judge is a genius.

There was another great scene where they are in the bad neighborhood and one of the guy's messing with "Dinesh" in the car by lowering the windows and then locking him outside and he then he's scared shitless with each car that drives by....

Can't wait for Season 2. Smiley

The stoner guy is my least favorite character. He gained weight for the role because Mike Judge told him he envisioned a character along the lines of Penn Jillette. Regardless, I love the adderall scene where he goes to beat up the little kid and says "You just brought piss to a shit fight you little (??cock??)"

Did you watch the behind the scenes feature about filming Tech Crunch (or whatever it was called)? Mike Judge talks about all the problems they had coming up with realistic tech company names. Funny stuff.

I saw the Tech Crunch extra after you mentioned it. I was thinking HBO probably gave them a big budget to build huge sets like the convention and the Hooli headquarters.

I'm looking for anymore interview with Judge on this. This show is great.

I was at my bank the other day where I faced this incredibly stupid and obnoxious receptionist. I asked to speak to an account manager and she kept asking me for all these personal details right in front of everybody in the reception area. And she was repeating everything I said loudly like a retard.

I refused to give her any more info she asked for and I wanted to do the Peter Gregory cough noise so badly right to her face but I knew she would never get it...

That was supposedly the last scene they filmed before he died. It's ironic that they were talking about his health. The last episode setup the potential for new investors to buy the company. Pretty girl. {Smile}

That sheep gif with the aol blue mascot icon is hilarious. Smiley

From the preview, it looks like the "Peter Gregory" role is getting replaced by a new female actress...maybe she plays his side partner or co-something. I heard they didn't want to write off the "Peter Gregory" character off but he'll still be referenced thoughout the series. Haven't seen any new new Mike Judge interviews yet. I'll probably rewatch the season one marathons this weekend.

Re: Silicon Valley (HBO) (10th Apr 15 at 9:57pm UTC)
Starbrand doesn't like my sheep gif file. It's one of my favorites. I use it a lot less because I know it bothers him.
A couple of guys that used to work in the offices had a sicker sense of humor than me. They'd carry on a conversation about how hot Jon Bennet Ramsey was and say how sad it was that she got killed. To make it worse was the perverted look of excitement as they asked if I agreed. One of them had instructions for doing sheep. He said you put the sheep's hind legs in you boots and walk it towards the edge of a cliff. The sheep would panic and back up which made it better.

I'll probably watch it "on demand' after the show airs. I think I just want to absorb it for what it is. Teasers don't bother me, but knowing Mike Judge, my jaw will probably drop when I see the payoff to his humor. Being unprepared might be more interesting. He can take some of the most benign events and mock the hell out of it. It's stuff we all see and roll our eyes at, but he puts a spotlight on it. His characters all have a Seinfeld level of dysfunction to them.

Finally saw the first episode. It was really funny. Too short though. I was wanting this to be an hour show as I was watching it.

Now it's been renewed for season 3.

I've never seen an episode of Veep before...or Game of Thrones. I mostly watch hbo for movies and real time with bill Maher. I like a couple of Showtime's series like The Affair and Ray Donovan. Homeland really sucked in the later seasons.

I liked the banter of the 2 characters fighting over who gets the CTO title in Silicon Valley in front of the chick in that baseball field funding party. "No, i'm the chief tech officer." (then a guy investors walk in) "Ok, he's the chief tech officer."

I couldn't understand the part where Peter Gregory's assistant chick was trying to convince the main pied piper guy to take the lowest investor bid at the end and reject the high offer. {Embarassed} {Confused}

I gotta rewatch a replay.

Yea, I read an old article about that....that they were planning to reference Peter Gregory in a way like Charlie from "Charlie's Angels" where he's unseen or something. The way they dealt with it now was one of the sadder parts of the first episode while watching it.

I was analyzing the construction of the story behind his death. Somewhat predictable, but not typical of Judge's humor. I was thinking someone else constructed that story.

Episode #3 is slightly funnier that #2. Thankfully, I like the plot better than the humor. Unfortunately, it's very slow paced. Mike Judge has his genius moments in this. As with all his live action projects, he takes one gimmick and reuses/revisits it until it wears a little thin. I like the show, it just isn't paced very quickly and it isn't living up to last season.

Got caught up to episode 4. I can see how slow the pace is going plot-wise. Each episode wraps too quick....grueling to wait another week for the next one.

The "Effeminete K.D. Lang" reference to the human resources guy was too funny.

Episode 6 overwhelmed me with annoying scenarios. The awkwardness of the girls being pressured into friendship seems to have started it, but it was a theme throughout the show. It was funny seeing Blaine stand in front of the SWOT board.

Re: Silicon Valley (HBO) (22nd May 15 at 4:53pm UTC)
It may be fictitious, but it's very similar to tools used. I've had to sit through sessions where problems are listed, solutions are listed, and then we rank the solutions by which can be implemented at low cost and the quickest. I walk out thinking that it's stupid to gather 20 people in a room to brainstorm problems that someone can figure out in 5 seconds. My boss wanted everyone in our department to identify an area of waste, work on a solution, and show cost savings by eliminating that waste.
I told her it was unfair to ask me to come up with new ideas when I do that every single day anyway. She seemed indignant, but I went back to my emails and pulled up a couple of projects initiated 2 months prior to this project request and it was still more than anyone else had done so i ended up getting a gift card for $25 for doing something I do every single day.

This last episode shows the weakness in the writing from Mike Judge's projects. The material in episode 7 wasn't bad, but it's already been used. The funniest comedy has a shock tactic to it. There's a joke, the punch line, and then the surprise laughter. Episode #7 was a rehash of material from previous episodes. The "3 comma club" painting was moderately funny the first time. Reusing it a second time with a slash through it doesn't add anything new. We know the billionaire investor is immature and impulsive. Showing it from a different angle doesn't provide any surprises, hence no laughter. I guess the funniest line was him being upset about which way the doors open.

That was pretty good. You have to fast forward past the first 6 minutes of crap, but once they start talking to Mike Judge, it's not bad. He obviously had a lot more initiative than me, but we had some similar experiences. When they were talking about old computers and animation being dead through the 70's, I remember that pretty vividly. The CSI drinking game was funny because I have the exact same problem with modern writing. The characters would be saying "yeah, I know" to some of the dumbed down dialogue. Now we know things are likely to finish out in a courtroom.

Episode 9 was much better than 8. All around decent humor. No gut busting scenes, but I was smiling a lot. No Monica. No investors. A new lawyer. I think they stretched plausibility in one portion. Morbid but funny ending. The whole streaming subplot was totally unexpected, but it worked.

The ending was the funniest. I had to rewind it twice just for that falling scene. Next episode looks like it's going to be good with the condor egg guy coverage.

The footage at the end should boost Pied Piper's traffic. I thought it was very unlikely that the "girlfriend" being in the shop and testing the software on a Hooli computer would automatically default the ownership of the software over to Hooli. I find the business side of the show to be very interesting.

On an unrelated note, there is a commercial airing with a person calling his pet Puki... at least phonetically it sounds like that . He's on the phone with an Asian guy who questions it. Rightfully so since that would be the term for vagina in the Philippines. It struck me as odd and it sounded like something you'd see on Silicon Valley.

That's funny. I was actually talking to a phone rep that routed all the way over to a guy in the philippines...and he was talking to me about movies while his system was loading...and was talking about the beaches in the philippines....then in a moment of silence while i was waiting for him to sign off on my account...I said, oh yea, I heard the beaches are nice...and the philippine women are very pretty over there....and he says: "They are?" Smiley

That cracked me up.

Smiley

I think monica has too much screen time on the show. She really adds nothing to the show. When she walks into a scene, she takes the life out of the room.

We've had maybe a half-dozen women from the Philippines working where I work. There's two types evidently. The ones with Spanish genes mixed in and the ones that don't have Spanish genes. The ones that don't wouldn't catch my eye at all. The ones that do will catch my eye immediately. I like women from the Philippines, but most are only interested in money. One guy got his wife a job. She was from the Philippines and everyone raved about how beautiful she was. I was perplexed the first time I saw her sitting with him. I wasn't impressed at all. Later I got to know her better and I discovered that she wasn't beautiful, but she was incredibly feminine and flat out sexy. Overall, I have seen a lot of beautiful Philippine women. They tend to be very meek from my experience. They want security & money. I'd be very apprehensive to actually pursue one even if I was not already in a relationship.

The season finale was evidently tonight. It was okay, but there was no gut busting humor. It sorta fizzled. It has a Jim Shooter ending... {Unsure}

I thought the same thing! JS ending...and the whole computer rush at the end.

The condor cam was too underused. I was looking forward to see more of that guy stuck there.

Monica and her squinchy reaction faces was back. Smiley

But yea, not much movement in the storyline. It's like season 2 could have been done in 2 hours if they edited tighter.

I thought they were about to milk the condor cam too much, so I'm glad it wasn't used more.
I thought Monica was kinda hot in season #1. Then I looked up pictures of the actress online and I was underwhelmed. Now I don't think she looks that hot in the second season.

I think the biggest flaw with this season is all the stupid screw ups they made. I know that conflict is necessary to drive a plot forward, but repeated screw ups isn't entertaining to me. I was not an "I Love Lucy" fan. I really wasn't a fan of "I Dream of Jeanie" either. Too many idiotic decisions were made on those shows.
Beavis and Butthead were idiots, but they lived a charmed life and obliviously got through everything.

Beavis & Butthead...lol...I can watch them any day. Beavis & Butthead Do America was on tv and it still holds up today. Monica just annoys me...I dunno. I think the loss of Peter Gregory really affected the direction of season 2, forcing Mike Judge rethink everything again without him.

I saw a part of the movie "Extract" the other day and noticed "Erlich" and "Blaine" were in it. Blaine played that pool guy who slept with the wife played by Kirsten Wiig. I need to finish watching that one.

Never saw that one. I guess season 2 is over so I'll go back to not watching any TV shows. I mainly go to movies to get out of the house. I used to buy CD's and DVD's, but I have no interest in buying them anymore. They take up space and I don't like watching TV much anymore. I tried watching a few episodes of Arrow and a few episodes of Flash. I thought they were juvenile.

I haven't gotten into Arrow or Flash yet. It's in my netflix queue but still haven't had time. Smallville used to be great when that was around and there were rumors that the same actor would show up in the show. Daredevil is another one I haven't tried yet. I can't remember when was the last time I used netflix.

I watched the 1st Season of Smallville and thought it was okay. I also thought it was stupid that he never wore a costume. I think I have a DVD of Season 2 that I never watched. Haven't seen Daredevil. I think SHIELD is stupid. I should be overjoyed, but I think people are going to get tired of everyone on TV and in movies being a superhero.

Is the new CEO of Pied Piper really going to be Orlando Jones?

I think his MadTV style of humor could be a good thing.

I remember when i first saw that scene years ago, I thought Orlando was imitating a blind guy because he was looking up the whole time or something. I gotta cath the movie again for his scenes.

I got that he was a mindless drone just reading a prewritten script. The staring into space and the way he annunciated the words is perfect to exaggerate how stupid the door to door practice is.

He's been doing more voice acting lately. He done some funny characters in Futurama in the past. He'd fit perfect in Silicon Valley world.

Office Space was awesome. I remember Best Buy having it on clearance after it had failed to do well. That was when I snatched up the DVD and realized how awesome it was. It was really a sleeper as far as commercial successes go.

It was released on April fools so it's probably a side promo. Wondering if that "X" company in the video plays into the new season as a new character/company.

I would hope Mike Judge would have better humor in this upcoming season. That's outside the range of what he normally does. Maybe he's tapped out and let Thomas Middleditch write some content. His perspective is interesting, but not anything that would make me laugh.

Kiko needs to be promoted to series regular. He deserves more screen time than Monica.

I recorded last night's new episode. Saving it to watch it when I can.

I watched it last night. It wasn't bad, but it was more of a drama. I didn't find much very funny. I still like watching it, but there was less humor in this than any episode I've seen. The insults were okay, but the RIGBY (Richard Is Great But Y'Know) bit fell flat.

Yea, it was a gloomy first opener. Not much comedy in this one. The floating mustaches were ok.

Monica adds nothing to the show. It's like they're making her to be the straight man villain to play off of? I don't get her purpose since Peter Gregory is not there anymore.

The last closing song was funny. Mike Judge picks some funny songs for the ending credits.

The mustaches weren't funny to me because that's too realistic. It was too believable that a start-up would try to make their mark that way. I like the show even if it isn't funny because it is so realistic. Humor has to catch someone off guard. Nothing caught me off guard. I was disappointed that they leave you thinking the CEO is out and then they show previews for the next episode and he's right back in. Spoilers don't get me upset, but why end on such a final note and then reverse it a minute later?
I like Monica. I thought she was really cute at first, but now I just think she's groomed well. The show has too many guys. Monica is cute enough to keep me entertained if there is nothing else going on.

Mike Judge comes from a corporate background, but he's trying to pull comedy from annoying stuff that actually happens in the workplace. Watching it is like going to work and reliving the stupid attitudes people have. It's not like Office Space where people hate the copy machines so they go out in a field and destroy one. The punch line is missing in episode 2 (season 3).
