The emo son is a bit annoying when he comes out. His character gets stale pretty fast. I like Catherine 'O Hara and her snobby spoiled daughter the most. They are the funniest ones on the show. If you remember the "Let Blaine Die" SWOT board from Silicon Valley, the same "Blaine" actor is a regular on the show too. It usually airs at odd times on the POP channel. Very short seasons.

I'm sure your review is accurate. I cannot stand watching the son for even two seconds. I see him and I flip the channel.

Elrich doesn't really give a straight answer to Larry King on why he's leaving in this video:

Looks like he's squirming around when he gets asked....

Sounds like a pay issue to me. He wants more. They can't pay. Defiant1

The show the past few weeks has moved at an accelerated pace. The timing for the jokes is off. The ongoing catastrophe isn't ending on last season's negative tone in every episode, but it still isn't as good as Season 1. It's interesting either way.

I thought this was Elrich's send off episode when Jian Yang kept rushing him to leave at the airport. It's like these last few episodes, he's slowly being edited out with minimal screen time.

Jared looked unpredictable in this one. I can't tell where they're going with him as a character.

It's definitely faster paced this season. Each episode felt like 15 minutes when the half hour goes by.

One episode left to go.

I liked the way they had the save with the security guard. At least they aren't all ending on a negative situation.

As he said, he's too busy. He thinks he'll make more money elsewhere. I think the show will be better without him. I like Jin Yang rushing him out of America. That was good stuff.

That was the best. I had to rewatch:

I want to see how Mike Judge sends Erlich off on Sunday.

The smart refrigerator brand was "Seppen" which is a Japanese word which means "cut off scraps". I wonder if that's a reference to what the skit was. Maybe it was a stand-alone segment that they were going to fit in when they could.

A Thicket of Thorns

— by Jared Dunn

piedpiper_409_blog

Hello, readers. My apologies if this post lacks my usual pluck, but it has been a trying week. The boys at the home and I used to play a game called “Rose and Thorn,” ranking the highs and lows of our day, and, well, these past few have been a thicket of thorns.

First, Erlich announced that he would be journeying to Tibet, and I’m confident he did not research the necessary vaccinations before departing. So there’s that to worry about. Second, we attended Hooli-Con, which was a ticker tape parade of disillusionment.

My singular purpose there was to promote our Space Saver app, and I toted Pied Piper banners, caps, and foam fingers — all the usual showstoppers — to do so. You can imagine my disappointment when I saw our booth was located in the middle of the row, granted only a sad folding table and chairs like a recent divorcé’s dining room. No matter, I thought. I’ll forge ahead. I’ll hand out pamphlets with the zeal of a pilot during the Blitz.

My brief moment of optimism ended when I overheard some unnerving discussion back at the booth. I put on my noise-cancelling headphones, but even Terry Gross couldn’t calm my nerves. I closed my eyes, Uncle Jerry’s words echoing in my mind.

If I had to pick one “thorn,” though, I suppose it would be witnessing a hero succumb to the worst of his impulses, prioritizing a childish prank to temporarily salve a wounded ego over the security of his colleagues. Watching the violent sparking of several HooliPhones wasn’t ideal, either, but I have to say this confrontation with moral fallibility was the low point for me, personally.

Anyway, I’m off to search for a “rose”! I’ve almost earned enough PeaceFare points to host a virtual food drive, and that will feel good.

The comment about vaccines makes me think he's going to be killed off. If they kill him off, I think it's a safe bet that he pissed off someone.

I was thinking they might kill him off too. Something drastic for his character and maybe they won't leave the door open for him to come back. Since he's in bigger movies now, he's just too big for the show. {Rolleyes}

I didn't know piedpiper had a blog all this time. Now I can look forward to catching up on that one.

Emily rules. Every time I try to watch her hour on bloomberg, there's always a guest host instead of her.

I think she's on maternity leave. I don't know why I think that, but I think I read something about her getting pregnant.

Looks like Erlich's character got a reprieve in his last episode. And Emily made another cameo.

Here's Mike Judge talking about the finale:

He says:

Quote:
I didn’t talk to Alec because I don’t like Alec, but I think Mike Judge and [co-executive producer] Clay Tarver are brilliant.

He seems to have gripes with Thomas and Alec.
I really think this was a serious burning of bridges. This will affect his future employment.
The second interview was "edited and condensed for clarity". Hmmm!
It makes me think the interviewer was trying to weed out the BS.

Yea, why burn a bridge like that. It only takes couple box office duds for him to want to crawl back to tv again. And to bail out on a Mike Judge project.

At least be gracious to tell them he's open to come back when they offered it. Sounds like he really hated being Erlich more than the audience did. That character is so easy to play too.

His comedy career is taking off because of the TV show.
His voice work is taking off because of the TV show.
His movie career is taking over because of the TV show. His TV show is his weekly connection to his audience.
Get rid of that and he's throwing away the audience that his recognition brings to the table for other projects. Maybe he can sustain with Deadpool sequels. I don't know. Maybe his marriage is under strain and that's affecting his judgment. I think the show will do fine without him.
