Doctor Strange (2017)

Overall, I liked the movie. Some things bothered me.

1) The origin is prolonged. It actually got a little boring for awhile as he tried to seek healing for his hands.
2) The female Ancient One - Worst decision for the movie.
3) Black Baron Mordo. I think the actor is great. I just see no reason to change the race of a character. If they picked a Chinese actor to play Luke Cage in the ghetto, it'd be equally stupid.
4) Stunning graphics, but not surreal and psychedelic enough. Too much "Inception" (movie) special effects and too many fractals. Even the alternate dimensions show were a little weak visually.
5) I felt the movie jumped too quickly one he started learning a few tricks.

Things that helped..

1) Rachel McAdams - I like her. She made some scenes more heart wrenching and emotional.
2) The magnitude of the special effects. Even though they weren't visually correct for the character, it was amped up to an amazing degree.
3) I like the way the enemy is countered at the end. It's a throwback type of plot.
4) I'm sure there were other things... I'll leave this one open..

I saw a chase sequence where they imitated "Inception" but added more to it that looked interesting.

Kind of surprised there's no more marvel movies this year.

It takes the Inception special effects and magnifies it 100-fold. For me, it was just out of sync with the character and it was showing off what they can do instead of trying to reproduce the comics.

I liked it a lot!
I wasn't familiar with the villain.

They strayed so much from the comics that I just rolled with it all.

I'm posting this more for reference.

David T. Lindsay worked at one of the two main metro Atlanta comic shops in the late 70's. He does a lot of writing for publications. here is his review of the Dr. Strange movie. He gives it a good review but it's not one of his better written pieces. He did an excellent review of the first Sony Spider-man movie in the early 2000's or whenever it came out.

It was published in this magazine.

Stomp & Stammer (Vol. 22) #2

I'm going to throw the magazine away and I wanted to save a copy of the article for myself.

I think he needed to talk more about the movie and less about the comics.

Finally saw it. It was ok. I saw the Thor cameo in the after credits. I was distracted by Doctor Strange's American speaking accent though. I liked how Doctor's Strange's red cape was protective of him. Like it's own character. I'm not sure if that's how it was in the comics.

I liked it better than most Marvel movies. I know the Ditko Dr. Strange and the Defenders Dr. Strange. I have a few inbetween but I don't remember anything about them.
