Wait. After this played it had a clip titled "First look..." and I think I saw that "First look" video over a year ago. I'm kinda burnt out on Alien movies because there were so many bad ones. The second one was the best <cough><cough> Cameron <cough><cough>.

Disappointed in this teaser. It looks more like one of the Starship Troopers direct to video sequels. {Unsure}

Ok, there's the egg opening, blood stains on walls...got it but it looks like every other horror movie.

Hoping the next full trailer is better...

It's everything we've already seen in the first movie. No surprise.
I'm not wild about the music they are pairing with the film either.

The music sucks. Not even a sample of Jerry Goldsmith's classic score. It's like FOX told Ridley, we want this to be more scary like your first movie! I want more like James Cameron's colonial marines going to the Aliens homeworld and wiping them out. And the different stages of aliens introduced in Prometheus....

Sucky teaser. *meh*

They even added a James Franco cameo who supossedly plays Ripley's dad. {Lips Sealed} I'm sure the Alien will especially eat him first.

The only interesting carryover from the last movie is the evil android played by Michael Fassbender. They should make a Blader Runner connection since they're both coming out next year. Ridley's got 5 months left to get this together.

By this xmas trailer alone, it really needs Rogue One level reshoots. (still haven't seen Rogue One)

I think they just need to tell a new story and not think we'll be enticed by plot elements that were a surprise 35 years ago. I almost think that making a connection now would tarnish my impression about the Blade Runner concepts.

I saw a video showing things in a Rogue One trailer that never actually happened in the movie. There was definitely a big change in the way the mission was accomplished in the trailer vs. the way it was in the final cut. I'm thinking it may tie to the way they left things with K-2SO. It could have been to cut some costs on CGI.

Alien Day/Alien: Covenant Prologue!

This one has heavy spoilers from the last movie's cliffhanger:

When the first one came out, I just wrote it off as a sneaky way to hide all the prop details that would look cheesy if the set had been bright. They can make it all look very realistic with CGI now. I write it off as cheap and ripping off the consumer.

I'm liking it better after this prologue which brought back the characters from the last movie. Seems like it's going to feel like 2 movies now....the Covenant crew is filled with a bunch of married couples set to colonize that new planet that's going to blow up in their face when they get infected by Aliens. So it's kind of a prequel story to James Cameron's Aliens in a way since the long version had the colonists go missing from that movie.

Then Michael Fassbender is playing plays 2 androids now with one seemingly a good android accompanying the Covenant crew and then there's the evil blond android leftover from the Prometheus crew. I'm getting shades of Terminator 2 now. I predict robot vs. robot action at the end of this one. {Shocked}

I haven't really followed this series. I liked it when it came out originally. The 2nd one was the best. It lost me on the third one.

Aliens is my favorite Cameron movie. Alien 3 was so bad. I don't know why Ridley just keeps the new movie title plural as "Aliens" Covenant" since there's going to be more than one Alien in it.

I was tempted to go see this tonight but everything has "reserve seating" in theaters now. Most theaters are already filled up in the middle section. Might go early in the morning instead. I prefer no crowds and scrambling for the best mid section chairs.

It was good for an Alien movie. I still enjoyed Prometheus better. There were some slow parts to it that could have been sped up. The actual full sized black Alien looked too cgi'd when they were running around. The regular puppets from the Cameron movie are still more effective. Alot of the side promotional videos online were left out of the official movie. The prologue was actually better.

I guess the best parts were the evil android played by Fassbender and the small white aliens which looked like gremlins attacking people. Disappointed that Noomi Rapace from the previous movie wasn't in this.

Ridley does interesting things when it comes to the spaceship sequences. He should stick more with that for the next one.

I'm more looking forward to Valerian now.

I think I made the right decision to not go. Horror isn't a big appeal to me whether it's in space or on Earth. Cameron worked for Corman. He's going to know how to stretch a budget to get the effects he wants.

There was a space sequence in the beginning that kind of looked like the first spaceship from the beginning of Avatar.

It was ok. I'd have to watch the movie again to see if I like it any more. Or re-read the old comics to find what ideas Ridley took from where. {Grin}

So far, i'd rank them as:

Aliens
Alien/Prometheus (tied)
Alien Covenant/Alien vs. Predator (tied)
Alien Resurrection
Aliens vs Predator Requiem

Alien 3 (far away last)

I heard very bad reviews on Prometheus. It may be like that Hugh Jackman movie about the tree. It tries to be really deep and philosophical, but the message falls straight to the ground like a skydiver whose parachute didn't open. The explanations of Prometheus online sounded interesting despite the fact I never saw it.

There was a lot I didn't like about the 1st movie. It won me over because it was new, sci-fi, and just different for the time period. I hated the dark scenes & corridors. Horror doesn't excite me and the newness of the concept has worn off.

Re: Alien Covenant (2017) (21st May 17 at 4:23pm UTC)
So many questions from Prometheus are still unanswered in this one. The "Engineers" motive for planting the alien ooze on the planet from the first movie was never explained. Despite Ridley saying that answers would be given in this sequel for years. {Rolleyes}

It's like he threw away his story plans for this one and just went for another random set of "colonists land on a planet and get chased by Aliens" plot again. Or maybe he's going to stretch his plans for the sequels like the Inifnity stones storyline in the Marvel movies.

The whole James Franco addition was completely cut entirely. {Grin} I read he skipped the main starring role in the next Predator just to do this. Then Ridley just reduced him to a blu ray deleted scene.

H.R. Giger passed away a few years ago and alot of his Alien influence designs were missing. Prometheus had full on HR Giger exotic creatures and sets.

I'm tired of seeing Harry Osborn in so many movies. Giger's art was a big design element that made the visuals work. There was a huge explanation of everything online. Maybe he thinks everyone has already read that.
